ANNOUNCEMENT ETIQUETTE

Engagement Ring Once your close family members are aware of your decision, you will probably be keen to let your relatives and friends know of your engagement. Whether you do this by writing, telephoning or simply letting the 'grapevine' do the work is up to you. Depending upon how far spread your family and friends are, you may wish to consider an announcement in the local or national newspapers. It is traditional for the bride's parents to announce the news in a local or national newspaper.

Of course, the hippest couples announce their engagement on the Internet, so that friends and family around the world can access the announcement and see pictures of the couple together.

A formal press announcement usually takes the following form:
Mr. A.B. Smith and Miss C.D. Jones
The engagement is announced between Andrew Smith,
eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric F. Smith, of Edmonton, Alberta
    and Connie Jones,
second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Jones of Toronto, Ontario
If a parent has remarried, the announcement would read:
Mr. A.B. Smith and Miss C.D. Jones
The engagement is announced between Andrew Smith,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric F. Smith of Edmonton, Alberta
    and Connie Jones,
only daughter of Mr. George Jones of Toronto and Mrs. Ellen Brown of Calgary.
If a parent is deceased, the announcement would read:
Mr. A.B. Smith and Miss C.D. Jones
The engagement is announced between Andrew Smith,
youngest son of Mrs. Susan Smith and the late Mr. Eric Smith, of Edmonton, Alberta
and Connie Jones, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs George Jones of Toronto, Ontartio.
A less informal announcement could read:
Mr. A.B. Smith and Miss C.D. Jones
George and Ellen Jones, of Toronto,Ontario
are delighted to announce the engagement of their daughter
    Connie Dawn to Andrew Barry,
son of Eric and Ellen Smith, of Edmonoton, Alberta.
If the your parents are hosting the forthcoming nuptials it is customary for the your father to be responsible for making and paying for the public announcements. However, before the announcement is submitted for publication, your groom-to-be's parents should be shown the announcement for their approval.
