The bridesmaids’ luncheon is a not a required wedding event, but it’s a fun tradition that gives the (usually) female wedding participants a chance to get to know each other better, share some laughs and unwind a bit before the wedding day.
The bridesmaids’ luncheon is usually hosted by the bride – it’s a way of thanking your bridesmaids and other female members of the wedding for all their hard work and support in bringing your wedding together. In addition to your wedding attendants, you can invite the mothers / grandmothers of the bride and groom, close aunts and cousins, and best friends.
Some brides take the opportunity of the bridesmaids’ luncheon to give their attendants their thank you gifts. Generally, the bridesmaids are not expected to give gifts back to the bride at the luncheon – this is really a way of thanking them for all they’ve already done for the bride.
The bridesmaids’ luncheon needn’t be a fancy or expensive affair – there are no hard and fast rules about what it is. In fact, it need not be a luncheon at all. Traditionally, it was held the day of or day before the wedding featuring very light fare. Today, it need not be held that close to the actual wedding (although it can), and any type of food goes. If your bridesmaids are traveling from out of town to attend your wedding, however, you may need to schedule it that close to the wedding in order to catch everybody in town at once. It will afford a great opportunity for your attendants to get acquainted – or reacquainted – before the ceremony.
BRIDESMAIDS LUNCHEON IDEAS
Since it doesn’t have to be a luncheon at all, you can use your imagination and make the bridesmaids’ luncheon any activity that you and your guests will enjoy.
Spa day – what better way to thank your bridesmaids for working so hard for you day than to treat them to a day (or part of a day) just for them?
Manicures/Pedicures – everyone will want fresh ones for the wedding. Treating your bridesmaids to this little luxury and having everyone go together is a great thank you.
Pajama Party – it’s not just for little girls! You and your bridesmaids can really let your hair down (or put it in rollers like when you were little!) and dish some great “girl talk” while munching on favorite snacks, watching some great videos, and totally relaxing together.
Barbeque - here’s your chance to get the grill away from the guys! And don’t forget the toasted marshmallows and s’mores.
