ONE OF THE NEWER TRADITIONS TO HIT WESTERN CANADA
Anyone who has lived in Manitoba is familiar with the "social", a public dance held in honor of a couple about to be married.. This phenomenon is known in rural Ontario as a "buck and doe" or "stag and doe" or “Jack & Jill” This tradition is very popular in Eastern Canada, and just starting to make it's way into Western Canada. This event is usually held about a month before your wedding and is meant for both the bride and groom. The party is usually hosted by the bridal party or the couple's parents. Tickets are sold to friends and family. The ticket fee is to cover the costs of the event and after all the bills are taken care of, the remainder is donated to the bride & groom to help with wedding expenses or just to help start their new life together. There is usually a 50/50 draw, raffle tickets are sold for prizes, and many other games and activities take place. A DJ usually provides music.
