Tips for Making The "Toasts"

Toasts aren't speeches . They aren't meant to take the audience down memory lane. They should be carefully thought out, brief and to the point. Toasts can be made before or during dinner and should be made prior to the speeches.

Who should make a toast, and to whom?
Here are some suggestion
s.

  • Toast to the bride: Made by the best man, family member or friend.

  • Toast to the bride and groom: Made by the best man, father of the groom or relative.

  • The groom's response: This includes a few words to his bride, thanks to whoever made the first toast. Thanks to both sets of parents, and a toast to the bridesmaids.

  • Toast by the Maid of Honour: The Maid of Honour thanks the bride and groom on behalf of the bridesmaids.

  • Toast by the father of the bride: On behalf of his wife and himself, he thanks everyone for attending and indicates that the festivities may now begin. Dinner is served.
Always finish your toast by raising your glass, saying the name of the bride and groom and a word or phrase to let the audience know they can take a sip. Words that are normally used are: cheers, here's to you, all the best, salut (Italian), l'chaim (Hebrew meaning "to life"), and here, here.
